The best lens for youtube videos

Hey guys!! I hope you are enjoying these posts on creating a Youtube channel. We have covered why it is important for bloggers to have a Youtube channel and what equipment is best for creating videos for your Youtube channel.

I wanted to make a separate post on what lenses are best to have when creating Youtube videos. Specifically for beauty related videos and fashion videos. I have tried a lot of lenses and I think these are the best for capturing the best content for your channel.

THE BEST LENS FOR YOUTUBE BEAUTY VIDEOS

(makeup tutorials, hauls, hair tutorials etc)

  • Canon 50 mm 1.4 – This lens is typically called the “nifty fifty”. It is a prime lens so you will have to manually focus the lens. I use this lens in most of my videos and blog post pictures. It kind of does it all. It creates a beautiful bokeh which is the blurry background we like in our photos and video and is really sharp. I started out with the 1.8 then upgraded and noticed a huge difference with the 1.4. I would recommend saving up for the 1.4 because it is much better. This lens is great for makeup tutorials.
  • Canon 35 mm 1.4 The 35mm is a great lens for tutorials or anything where you are showing a product ( i.e. makeup haul videos). The difference from the 50 mm is the bokeh is better on the 50mm and the 35 gives you more space around your subject. The 50 will crop tighter in the frame. I like to change it up and use the 35 mm for hauls sometimes.

THE BEST LENS FOR YOUTUBE FASHION VIDEOS

(fashion hauls, ootd, look books, etc)

  • Canon 50 mm 1.4 – This lens is great for anything. It is harder to do full body shots because of the cropped frame but I still get a great look from this lens for my fashion videos.
  • Canon 10-18 mm The Canon 10-18 mm is a great lens for a wide angle shot. If you do any travel vlogs this is a great lens to have and if you do any outfit shots where you want to see the entire head to toe outfit this is the lens you need. The 50 mm will give you a cropped frame and you will have to stand farther away from the camera to get your full body shot. This lens will provide a full body shot at a closer length to the camera.

I have always been a Canon girl so I can’t help the people who have Nikon. I prefer Canon over Nikon because its what I learned first and enjoy it enough to not care to switch to Nikon. These lenses are also great for any cooking videos you may want to add to your channel.

I hope this helps when deciding what lens to buy for your Youtube videos!! Thanks for reading and let me know what lens you choose to use for your videos!!

    1. Thank you so much for sharing this information with us! Which lense do you use for filming and which one do you use for blog photos? Also, does the lense that you use for filming autofocus during filming, such as close up of products or swatches, or do you have to do it manually? TIA😘

      1. Thank you!! I use the 50 mm for filming. It has autofocus but you will need to manually focus it for the video. I use this and the 35 mm for blog photos. I love the 50 mm for video I typically insert separate product shots for the close up.

    1. Thanks for sharing too 🙂 Quite nice informative post about its subject! Could you share with us a makeup photo just to see the quality of the ring light? Can’t wait for the next posts 🙂
